Congratulations to all of our students in both A-Level/ Level 3 and GCSE/ Level 2 success.
Over the last few days, we have shared some excellent results with our students, both those completing courses in the sixth form and also, today, those receiving their GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results.
We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Not only have they succeeded academically but they have grown socially and emotionally showing real strength of character, forging strong friendships and relationships with both peers and staff. These are crucial skills that will serve them well throughout their futures. Our teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that all of our students are able to progress within further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future. It is days like these that we have had this week, which make our role so rewarding and worthwhile, as we see the children who joined us at the age of 11 move on as young adults into incredibly positive destinations with the world at their feet. The determination and resilience shown by all of the students that have received results is superb. They have been incredible in overcoming the challenges of the disruption caused by the COVID19 pandemic, not just during this academic year but in the previous year as well. This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard that were approved and awarded by the exam boards. The system of quality assurance used at Tor Bridge High was rigorous and robust, meaning that the grades awarded accurately reflect the ability of each and every student in all of the subjects they studied. School staff have been available on both results days and will be available in the coming weeks to support students with any guidance or assistance that they need having received their results.
For those students who have received A-level/BTEC grades, most of them will soon be going to university, with the vast majority gaining a place at their first choice. For those who did not, they have had support from staff to secure a place on a slightly different course that will also enable them to start at university in the coming months. Destinations include London Metropolitan (Illustration and Animation), Liverpool John Moores (Biomedical Science), Bristol UWE (Politics and International Relations), Cardiff (Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging) and Plymouth (Chemistry) to name just a few which give a flavour of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
We very much look forward to welcoming the majority of students that have received their GCSE results today into our sixth form in September. We were delighted with their engagement in the extended post 16 induction programme that we facilitated in the last half term of the year and we are sure that having secured such excellent results that they will continue to excel and continue to grow to be the best that they can be. For the few that are moving onto other destinations, we wish them well and are sure that based on the solid foundations, set while here at Tor Bridge High, that they will also go on to have positive and successful futures.
